Ideato nel 2003, il Safety Gate è un portale online a libero accesso messo a disposizione dall’ECHA.
Si tratta di un sistema di allarme rapido che consente lo scambio di informazioni tra l’UE/SEE, il Regno Unito e la Commissione europea, sui prodotti non alimentari pericolosi.
Le segnalazioni sono effettuate dalle autorità, le quali quando individuano un prodotto a rischio per la salute e per la sicurezza dei consumatori procedono dandone notizia per un eventuale ritiro dei prodotti dal mercato.
Ogni segnalazione viene aggiunta nel sito web Safety Gate e contiene tutte le informazioni sul tipo di prodotto ritirato, una descrizione del rischio che potrebbe causare e le misure adottate dall’operatore economico per fronteggiare il pericolo.
I prodotti segnalati sono per la maggior parte articoli che potrebbero causare delle lesioni derivante da componenti chimici che si trovano all’interno della merce e quindi provocare un rischio chimico, oppure prodotti a rischio soffocamento per i bambini, non a caso tra le segnalazioni più comuni troviamo i giocattoli.
In tempi recenti, l’attenzione si è focalizzata sui prodotti connessi al Covid-19, prodotti di uso comune dall’intera popolazione che hanno subito un allarmismo del 9% nel 2020: parliamo di mascherine di protezione non idonee, disinfettanti contenenti sostanze chimiche tossiche, come il metanolo, che in caso di ingestione può causare cecità. Anche alcune lampade UV per la sterilizzazione sono state segnalate a causa delle forti radiazioni che causano irritazioni cutanee.
Nonostante i prodotti siano già in mercato, i controlli per la sicurezza dei cittadini non terminano e grazie al Safety Gate essere a conoscenza delle informazioni non è più un problema!

Designed in 2003, the Safety Gate is a free-access online portal provided by ECHA.
It is an early warning system that allows the exchange of information between the EU/EEA, the UK and the European Commission on dangerous non-food products.
The reports are made by the authorities, which when they identify a product at risk for consumers’ health and safety proceed by informing them about a possible withdrawal of the products from the market.
Each alert shall be added to the Safety Gate website and shall contain all information on the type of product withdrawn, a description of the risk it could cause and the measures taken by the economic operator to address the hazard.
The most of the reported products are articles that could cause injuries resulting from chemical components that are inside goods and therefore cause a chemical risk, or products with risk of suffocation for children: not surprisingly, among the most common reports we find toys.
In recent times, the focus has been on products related to Covid-19, products commonly used by the entire population that have undergone an alarmism of 9% in 2020: we talk about masks of protection not suitable, disinfectants containing toxic chemicals, methanol, which can cause blindness if swallowed. Also, some UV lamps for sterilization have been reported due to the strong radiation that cause skin irritation.
Although the products are already on the market, the security checks for citizens do not end and thanks to the Safety Gate being aware of the information is no longer a problem!
